Just Do Something
Have you ever really wanted accomplish something, but just never managed to get around to it? I’m talking about a pretty big goal that was attainable, but hard or costly. I wanted to go to seminary for years, but the thought of the time commitment and cost prevented me from doing it. I remember thinking things like, “if I start now I won’t finish for five to seven years.” So I continued to put it off. One day I woke up and realized that if I had started seminary when I started thinking about going I would have been nearly finished. Do you know how much closer I was to completing seminary at that point? NONE!
Finally, I started. I am now two and one-half years into my program and guess what, I am actually making progress toward a Masters degree! I still have a little ways to go, but I can now see the light at the end of the tunnel. So, what was my magic ingredient for accomplishing this overwhelming goal? I started. That’s it. Really, it is that simple. Nothing else really changed, except that I took the first step.
“Without action these changes or goals will NEVER happen.”
James 2:17 tells us that “faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead.” I think that this verse has a lot of application in a lot of areas in our lives. We want to make big significant changes or accomplish big significant goals, but they seem so big that we just think about them and do nothing. Without action these changes or goals will NEVER happen. Never!
“You can make one change today”
Here is my encouragement to you today. If you are struggling with your finances or have some really big goals that you want to save for, start doing something. Too often we feel like we have to get it all done at one time, when what we really need to do is start. You won’t fix your budget or finances overnight, but you can make one change today. You can’t save everything you need for the future today, but you can save something towards the future now. Just Do Something. Don’t sit around and wait any longer. Thinking about it is worthless and will get you no closer to your goal. Just as faith without works is dead, so are goals without action. Get up and go!
