Facing Fear? Find Encouragement in His Word
To be afraid sometimes is a part of life. Whether you or a loved one are experiencing fear today, this message is for you.
Even for the faithful, fears related to everything from personal finances to relationships to the state of our broken world are natural.
Thankfully, we can always turn to God’s Word for encouragement in such times. I’d like to share with you a few of my favorite verses that I turn to in the face of fear:
I Chronicles 29:11-12 & Psalm 24:1
“Yours, Lord, is the greatness and the power and the glory and the majesty and the splendor, for everything in heaven and earth is yours …” – I Chronicles 29:11a
“The earth is the Lord’s, and everything in it, the world, and all who live in it.” – Psalm 24:1
These are good reminders that God owns everything. So many of our fears come from forgetting that He is in control, and though we suffer for a time, He will set things right.
Psalm 73
“When my heart was grieved and my spirit embittered, I was senseless and ignorant; I was a brute beast before you. Yet I am always with you; you hold me by my right hand.” – Psalm 73:21-23
I often find encouragement in this psalm of Asaph, especially the imagery of God holding us by the hand. It’s a reminder that He is always with us, guiding us with His counsel. And He always will be.
Revelation 21 & 22
“And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Look! God’s dwelling place is now among the people, and he will dwell with them. They will be his people, and God himself will be with them and be their God.” – Revelation 21:3
When I read these two chapters in full, I’m comforted by the eternal perspective. A new heaven and a new earth await us with God Himself as our light. The struggles of today are destined to pass away. We are headed toward peace!
If you’re afraid, today or tomorrow, remember that there is always strength and encouragement to be found in God’s Word.
